Everything could happen in Heathmont at the game between two tied teams. Both leader Hawks and 4th placed Lady Cobras had identical 1-0 record. This time Hawks used a home court advantage and won against the opponent from Kilsyth 57-48 on Thursday night. It was a key game for the second position in League. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when Hawks made 9 blocks. It was a great evening for guard Marena Whittle (180-1994, college: NDSU, agency: LBM Management) who led her team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 20 points and 15 rebounds. Latvian forward Digna Strautmane (188-1998, college: Georgia Tech) helped adding 17 points, 11 rebounds and 8 blocks. Hawks' coach used entire bench and allowed the starting five to rest. At the losing side swingman Abigail Curtin (185, college: Denver) responded with 16 points and 8 rebounds and the former international power forward Lauren Scherf (196-1996) scored 11 points and 6 rebounds. Hawks (2-0) moved-up to second place in League. Loser Lady Cobras dropped to the twelfth position with one game lost. Hawks will meet Geelong Supercats (#4) on the road in the next round. Lady Cobras will play against the league's leader Cavaliers (#1) and hope to win that game.
