Regular Season Round 21: Cairns - Sydney 77-87

Date: April 21, 2022
Very expected game when 9th ranked Cairns Taipans (9-19) were defeated at home by second ranked Kings (19-9) 87-77 on Thursday. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when Kings made 9 blocks. The best player for the winners was forward Xavier Cooks (203-1995, college: Winthrop) who had a double-double by scoring 18 points, 12 rebounds and 6 blocks. American guard Ian Clark (190-1991, college: Belmont) chipped in 21 points (on 8-of-9 shooting from the field). At the other side the best for losing team was American guard Tahjere McCall (193-1994, college: Tennessee St.) who recorded 22 points, 7 rebounds and 4 assists and power forward Keanu Pinder (205-1995, college: Arizona) added 12 points and 14 rebounds respectively. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Kings have a solid series of three victories in a row. They maintain second place with 19-9 record behind leader Melbourne, which they share with Illawarra. Cairns Taipans lost third consecutive game. They keep the ninth position with 19 games lost.
