There was an upset in Cheltenham where much higher ranked Frankston Blues (1-1) were defeated by leader Sabres (1-0) 74-57 on Saturday. Sabres dominated down low during the game scoring 58 of its points in the paint compared to Frankston Blues' 24. They outrebounded Frankston Blues 43-29 including a 32-19 advantage in defensive rebounds. It was a great evening for naturalized Turkish guard Funda Nakkasoglu (173-1995, college: Florida) who led her team to a victory scoring 22 points and 5 rebounds. Point guard Amy O'Neill (170-1996, college: SFC) helped adding 11 points, 8 rebounds and 8 assists. Sabres' coach allowed to play the deep bench players saving starting five for next games. At the losing side forward Chelsea DAngelo (180-2000) responded with 23 points and international guard Tessa Lavey (172-1993) scored 4 points, 8 rebounds and 6 assists. Sabres left bottom position moving up to eighth place in League. Loser Frankston Blues dropped to the eleventh position with one game lost. Sabres will meet Diamond Valley Eagles (#16) in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Frankston Blues will play against Mount Gambier Pioneers (#6) in Mt Gambier and hope to win that game.
