Sabres' fans can finally celebrate the first win of their team after two consecutive losses. The victory is especially important as they defeated much higher ranked Ballarat Miners (1-2) 89-84 on Sunday. Sabres had a 38-23 advantage in offensive rebounds. They shot the lights out from three sinking 14 long-distance shots on high 53.8 percentage. The winners were led by Tohiraukura Smith-milner who had that evening a double-double by scoring 22 points and 13 rebounds and guard Nicholas Gabsch (193, college: Cuesta JC) supported him with 16 points. Even a double-double of 16 points, 11 rebounds and 4 assists by American-Kenyan forward Preston Bungei (198-1995, college: Norfolk St.) did not help to save the game for Ballarat Miners. Guard Koen Sapwell (193, college: CS Monterey) added 18 points and 5 rebounds. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Sabres left bottom position moving up to thirteenth place in League. Sabres will meet at home higher ranked Tigers (#11) in the next round and it may be quite challenging game. Ballarat Miners will play against Bendigo Braves (#17) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
