Regular Season Round 13: Rockhampton - Cairns M. 97-83

There was a surprise result in Rockhampton where thirteenth ranked Rockets (1-1) defeated much higher ranked Cairns Marlins (1-1) 97-83 on Saturday. Rockets made 17-of-19 free shots (89.5 percent) during the game. The former international swingman Todd Blanchfield (198-1991) fired a double-double by scoring 30 points, 11 rebounds and 4 assists (made all of his ten free throws !!!) for the winners. The former international point guard Kai Woodfall (183, college: MBU) chipped in 22 points and 6 assists. Four Rockets players scored in double figures. Guard Ben Ayre (188-1995, college: Newman) produced 34 points (!!!) and 8 rebounds (made all of his eight free throws) and point guard Deba George (183-1985) added 26 points respectively for lost side. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Rockets left bottom position moving up to sixth place in League. Rockets will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Cairns Marlins will play against Mackay Meteors (#5) and hope to win that game.
