Everything went according to plan in Melbourne where first ranked Mount Gambier Pioneers (5-1) outleveled 18th ranked Thunder (1-4) 93-60 on Sunday. Mount Gambier Pioneers dominated down low during the game scoring 52 of its points in the paint compared to Thunder's 32. They outrebounded Thunder 49-35 including a 34-23 advantage in defensive rebounds. Canadian swingman Cassandra Brown (189-1992, college: Portland) stepped up and scored 27 points, 8 rebounds and 4 assists for the winners and guard Hannah Young (178-1993, college: Kent St.) chipped in 22 points and 16 rebounds (made all of her eight free throws). Four Mount Gambier Pioneers players scored in double figures. At the losing side the former international guard Madeleine Garrick (178-1992) responded with 17 points and forward Monique Andriuolo (185-1998, college: Pepperdine) scored 6 points and 11 rebounds. Thunder's coach gave up on the game allowing to play ten players seeing no chance for a win. Despite that victory Mount Gambier Pioneers went down to second position (League) due to points difference. Loser Thunder dropped to the twentieth place with four games lost. Mount Gambier Pioneers will meet at home Geelong Supercats (#3) in the next round, which may be the game of the day. Thunder will have a break next round.
