Regular Season Round 18: Cairns M. - Darwin Salties 108-99

State League round 18 caused change at the leadership position. Second defeat of league's leader Salties (3-2) against fourteenth ranked Cairns Marlins (2-3) 108-99 was the most important game of the last round. Cairns Marlins made 22-of-24 free shots (91.7 percent) during the game. They shot the lights out from three sinking 16 long-distance shots on high 53.3 percentage. It was a good game for point guard Deba George (183-1985) who led his team to a victory with 26 points and 5 rebounds. Guard Ben Ayre (188-1995, college: Newman) contributed with 27 points (went 9 for 9 at the free throw line !!!) for the winners. American guard Jerron Jamerson (194-92, college: Goshen) replied with 33 points (!!!), 5 rebounds and 5 assists and the former international forward Makuach Maluach (200-98, college: N.Mexico) added 23 points and 5 rebounds in the effort for Salties. Four Cairns Marlins and five Salties players scored in double figures. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Cairns Marlins moved-up to twelfth place in League. Salties at the other side dropped to the fifth position with two games lost. They were replaced at the leadership position by Canberra G.. Both teams do not play next round, which will be an opportunity for some rest.
