Regular Season Round 19: Waverley F. - Ballarat M. 74-67
Date: May 22, 2022
We cannot really consider it an upset in the game between close teams when 4th placed Ballarat Miners (5-3) lost to fifth ranked Waverley Falcons (5-2) in Mount Waverley 67-74 on Sunday. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when Waverley Falcons made 7 blocks. It was an exceptional evening for guard Dexter Kernich-Drew (199-1991, college: WSU) who led the winners and scored 17 points. Naturalized American swingman Bennie Lewis (203-1987, college: Benedict) accounted for 11 points and 6 rebounds for the winning side. Lewis is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top international summer league in the market. Five Waverley Falcons players scored in double figures. American forward Jalon Miller (203, college: TCU) came up with 19 points and 5 rebounds and naturalized South Sudanese forward Deng Gak (208-1998, college: Miami, FL) added 11 points and 13 rebounds respectively for Ballarat Miners in the defeat. Ballarat Miners' coach rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Waverley Falcons maintains fifth place in League with 5-2 record. Loser Ballarat Miners dropped to the sixth position with three games lost. Waverley Falcons will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Ballarat Miners will play against Thunder (#18) in Melbourne and hope to secure a win.
