Everything went according to plan in Loganholme where fifth ranked Mackay Meteors (5-2) edged 14th ranked Thunder (1-3) 89-88 on Sunday. Mackay Meteors made 17-of-19 free shots (89.5 percent) during the game. Strangely Thunder outrebounded Mackay Meteors 56-42 including 19 on the offensive glass. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when Mackay Meteors made 7 blocks. The best player for the winners was guard Biwali Bayles (185-2002, college: Hawaii) who had a double-double by scoring 10 points, 8 rebounds and 11 assists. Naturalized South Sudanese power forward Emmanuel Malou (206-1993, college: Iowa St.) chipped in 19 points and 9 rebounds. Five Mackay Meteors players scored in double figures. At the other side the best for losing team was American guard Jeremy Kendle (186-1988, college: Bellarmine) who recorded 31 points and 5 assists and naturalized Danish guard Rasmus Bach (193-1995, college: Fort Lewis) added 15 points, 9 rebounds and 7 assists respectively. Both coaches tested many bench players in such tough game. Mackay Meteors keep a position of League leader. Loser Thunder keeps the fourteenth place with three games lost. Mackay Meteors will meet at home Rip City (#6) in the next round which should be theoretically an easy game. Thunder will play against Brisbane Capitals (#10) and hope to win that game.
