A very close game took place in Bendigo between Hawks and Lady Braves. Fifth ranked Hawks (8-2) got a very close victory on the road over leader Lady Braves (8-2). Hawks managed to escape with a 1-point win 78-77 on Saturday evening. It was a key game for the second position in League. Guard Marena Whittle (180-1994, college: NDSU, agency: LBM Management) fired 27 points and 8 rebounds for the winners. Latvian forward Digna Strautmane (188-1998, college: Georgia Tech) chipped in a double-double by scoring 17 points and 10 rebounds. Four Hawks players scored in double figures. The former international forward Tess Madgen (183-1990) produced 24 points, 7 rebounds and 6 assists and the former international guard Kelly Wilson (170-1984) added 23 points, 6 rebounds and 6 assists respectively for lost side. Hawks moved-up to second place in League. Hawks will meet at home Wildcats (#19) in the next round which should be an easy win for them. Lady Braves will have a break next round.
