Date: June 18, 2022
There was no surprise when 21th ranked Diamond Valley Eagles (1-9) were outleveled by twelfth ranked Knox Raiders (6-5) in Wantirna South 70-41 on Saturday. Knox Raiders held Diamond Valley Eagles to an opponent 21.9 percent shooting from the field compared to 35.4 percent accuracy of the winners. Knox Raiders had a 37-22 advantage in offensive rebounds. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 21 assists. It was an exceptional evening for forward Alicia Froling (190-1996, college: SMU) who led the winners and scored 31 points and 9 rebounds. Leah Santomaggio accounted for 8 points and 7 rebounds for the winning side. Power forward Sophie Burrows (184-2004) came up with 14 points and 7 rebounds and forward Kate Oliver (193-1991, college: USC) added 9 points, 7 rebounds and 4 blocks respectively for Diamond Valley Eagles in the defeat. Since the result was very predictable, it gave the chance for the coaches to test many bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Knox Raiders maintains twelfth place in League with 6-5 record. Loser Diamond Valley Eagles keep the twenty first position with nine games lost. Knox Raiders will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Diamond Valley Eagles will play against Geelong Supercats (#5) and hope to win that game.
