Regular Season Round 30: SW Slammers - Lakeside L. 84-96
Date: July 1, 2022
The game between closely ranked teams ended with twelfth ranked Lightning's (3-10) road victory over 13th ranked Slammers (1-13) in Bunbury 96-84 on Friday. Lightning forced 22 Slammers turnovers and outrebounded them 53-41 including a 25-14 advantage in offensive rebounds. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 24 assists comparing to just 9 passes made by Slammers' players. American guard Landon Taliaferro (196, college: Fairfield) notched 45 points (!!!) and 7 rebounds to lead the effort and the other American import forward Donald Vaughn (195-1990, college: VWU) supported him with 18 points and 4 assists. Vaughn is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top international summer league in the market. Even 13 points and 7 rebounds by British swingman Raphell Thomas-Edwards (198-1993, college: Gannon) did not help to save the game for Slammers. Guard Brody England (191-1999) added 15 points and 5 rebounds. Four Slammers players scored in double figures. Slammers' coach tested twelve players, but that didn't help to avoid defeat in this game. Lightning maintains twelfth position in League with 3-10 record. Loser Slammers dropped to the fourteenth place with 13 games lost. Lightning will meet at home higher ranked Hawks (#8) in the next round and it may be quite challenging game. Slammers will play against Senators (#3) where they are definitely not considered as a favorite in this game either.
