There was a small surprise in Sippy Downs where eighth ranked Cairns Marlins (7-5) beat 6th ranked Rip City (6-4) 93-85 on Saturday. Cairns Marlins made 19-of-23 free shots (82.6 percent) during the game. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when Cairns Marlins made 7 blocks. Guard Ben Ayre (188-1995, college: Newman) fired 43 points (!!!), 7 rebounds and 5 assists (made all of his twelve free throws !!!) for the winners. Guard Kody Stattmann (201-2000, college: Virginia) chipped in 13 points and 8 rebounds. Power forward Joshua Tueta (202-1989, college: MSU-Northern) produced a double-double by scoring 20 points and 14 rebounds and naturalized Sudanese forward Kouat Noi (201-1997, college: TCU) added 14 points and 11 rebounds respectively for lost side. Four Rip City players scored in double figures. Cairns Marlins moved-up to sixth place in League. Loser Rip City dropped to the eighth position with four games lost. Both teams do not play next round, which will be an opportunity for some rest.
