Regular Season Round 31: Sandringham S. - Mt Gambier 85-78

The game between second ranked Mount Gambier Pioneers (12-3) and fourteenth ranked Sabres (7-8) was the most important one in the last round on Sunday night. Mount Gambier Pioneers were defeated by Sabres in a tough game in Cheltenham 78-85. Sabres made 22-of-28 free shots (78.6 percent) during the game. Worth to mention a great performance of American guard Brittany Smart (177-1985, college: Cedarville) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 25 points and 11 rebounds. Forward Georgia Pineau (185-1997, college: Boston Coll.) contributed with 16 points and 9 rebounds for the winners. Canadian swingman Cassandra Brown (189-1992, college: Portland) answered with 22 points and 8 rebounds and guard Sherrie Calleia (172-1999) added 15 points and 6 rebounds in the effort for Mount Gambier Pioneers. Four Sabres and five Mount Gambier Pioneers players scored in double figures. Sabres moved-up to thirteenth place in League. Mount Gambier Pioneers at the other side dropped to the third position with three games lost. Sabres are looking forward to face league's leader Lady Braves in Bendigo in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Mount Gambier Pioneers will play at home against Spectres and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
