There was a small surprise when twelfth ranked Ballarat Miners (9-8) defeated 10th ranked NW Tasmania Thunder (9-10) in Wendouree 97-89 on Sunday. Ballarat Miners looked well-organized offensively handing out 22 assists. The winners were led by American-Kenyan forward Preston Bungei (198-1995, college: Norfolk St.) who scored that evening 31 points, 6 rebounds, 5 assists and 4 steals and guard Koen Sapwell (193, college: CS Monterey) supported him with 21 points and 8 rebounds. Even a double-double of 25 points, 13 rebounds, 4 assists and 6 blocks by forward Fabijan Krslovic (203-1995, college: Montana) did not help to save the game for NW Tasmania Thunder. Guard Kye Savage (186-2005) added 22 points for lost side. Four NW Tasmania Thunder players scored in double figures. Ballarat Miners moved-up to ninth place in League. Loser NW Tasmania Thunder dropped to the eleventh position with ten games lost. Ballarat Miners will meet Spectres (#14) in the next round where they are favorite. NW Tasmania Thunder will play against Waverley Falcons and hope to secure a win.
