There was a minor upset when 12th ranked Roar (4-13) was edged by fourteenth ranked Pirates (1-15) in Runcorn 99-96 on Saturday. Pirates made 17-of-21 free shots (81.0 percent) during the game. They also forced 19 Roar turnovers. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 23 assists. The winners were led by forward Bride Kennedy-Hopoate (193-1997, college: N.Mexico) who scored that evening 34 points (!!!) and 9 rebounds and swingman Stephanie Bairstow (188-1994, college: Utah St.) supported her with 24 points and 7 rebounds. Even a double-double of 32 points, 15 rebounds and 8 assists (went 7 for 7 at the free throw line) by American forward Mia Loyd (181-1994, college: N.Dakota) did not help to save the game for Roar. Her fellow American import guard Ariana Moorer (172-1991, college: Virginia) added 19 points, 13 rebounds, 5 assists and 7 steals. Four Roar players scored in double figures. Pirates left bottom position moving up to thirteenth place in League. Loser Roar keeps the twelfth position with 13 games lost. Pirates will meet higher ranked Force (#10) in the next round and it may be quite challenging game. Roar will have a break next round.
