Regular Season Round 1: SE Melbourne - Tasmania JJ 84-79
Date: October 1, 2022
There was no surprise when JackJumpers were defeated on the road by Melbourne Phoenix 84-79 on Saturday. However just five-point win is not that big difference and the fans of host team counted on more convincing victory. Melbourne Phoenix made 22-of-29 free shots (75.9 percent) during the game, while JackJumpers only scored five points from the stripe. Melbourne Phoenix had a 26-14 advantage in offensive rebounds. The former international guard Kyle Adnam (186-1993) stepped up and scored 30 points and 4 assists (made all of his eight free throws) for the winners and the former international swingman Mitch Creek (196-1992) chipped in 23 points and 6 rebounds. At the losing side the former international forward Jack McVeigh (203-1996, college: Nebraska) responded with 20 points and 5 rebounds and American Rashard Kelly (203-1995, college: Wichita St.) scored 18 points and 6 rebounds. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Both coaches tested many bench players in such tough game. Melbourne Phoenix will meet at home Cairns Taipans in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. JackJumpers will play against Bullets and hope to win that game.
