An exciting game was played in Melbourne. United faced New Zealand Breakers. Host United defeated guests from Auckland 101-97. Strangely New Zealand Breakers outrebounded United 50-33 including 37 on the defensive glass. Worth to mention a great performance of Canadian guard Xavier Rathan-Mayes (193-1994, college: FSU) who helped to win the game recording 33 points (!!!), 5 rebounds and 9 assists. The former international guard Chris Goulding (192-1988) contributed with 24 points for the winners. United's coach Dean Vickerman allowed to play the deep bench players in such tough game. American center Derek Pardon (203-1996, college: Northwestern) answered with a double-double by scoring 23 points and 12 rebounds (on 8-of-10 shooting from the field) and the other American import Barry Brown Jr. (190-1996, college: Kansas St.) added 23 points and 5 assists in the effort for New Zealand Breakers. Four New Zealand Breakers players scored in double figures. United will play against Kings in Sydney in the next round. New Zealand Breakers will play at home against JackJumpers to get more than just one victory in their record.
