An interesting game was also tough home defeat of Melbourne Phoenix in a game versus Cairns Taipans 85-76. Cairns Taipans forced 25 Melbourne Phoenix turnovers. The former international power forward Keanu Pinder (205-1995, college: Arizona) notched 19 points, 8 rebounds and 4 assists to lead the effort and American forward DJ Hogg (203-1996, college: Texas A&M) supported him with 18 points and 8 rebounds. Four Cairns Taipans players scored in double figures. Even 27 points by the former international swingman Mitch Creek (196-1992) did not help to save the game for Melbourne Phoenix. American center Alan Williams (203-1993, college: UCSB) added 18 points, 8 rebounds and 5 assists for the hosts. Both coaches allowed to play bench players saving starting five for next games. Cairns Taipans will meet Kings in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. Melbourne Phoenix will play against New Zealand Breakers and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
