Regular Season Round 3: Illawarra - NZL Breakers 62-88
Date: October 17, 2022
There was no surprise in Gwynneville where Illawarra Hawks (1-4) were outplayed by New Zealand Breakers (3-1) 88-62 on Monday. New Zealand Breakers outrebounded Illawarra Hawks 47-33 including 32 on the defensive glass. The best player for the winners was the former international guard William McDowell-White (196-1998, college: Fresno St.) who had a double-double by scoring 17 points, 10 rebounds and 6 assists. New Zealand forward Robert Loe (211-1991, college: St.Louis) chipped in 10 points and 8 rebounds. Five New Zealand Breakers players scored in double figures. At the other side the best for losing team was point guard Lachlan Dent (184-2000) who recorded 9 points, 7 rebounds and 4 assists and American swingman George King (198-1994, college: Colorado, agency: Slash Sports) added 9 points and 8 rebounds respectively. Since the result was very predictable, it gave the chance for the coaches to test many bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. New Zealand Breakers will meet Cairns Taipans (#4) on the road in the next round. Illawarra Hawks will play against Bullets (#10) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
