There was no surprise when 6th ranked Perth Lynx (2-5) was defeated on the road by third ranked Townsville Fire (5-2) 98-85 on Saturday. Townsville Fire dominated down low during the game scoring 66 of its points in the paint compared to Perth Lynx's 42. Townsville Fire had a 18-7 advantage in offensive rebounds. Guard Stephanie Reid (168-1996, college: Buffalo) scored 27 points, 6 rebounds, 9 assists and 4 steals to lead the charge for the winners and American forward Tianna Hawkins (191-1991, college: Maryland, agency: LBM Management) chipped in 20 points, 15 rebounds and 4 assists during the contest. The best for the losing side was forward Chloe Bibby (185-1998, college: Maryland) with 24 points and 9 rebounds and the former international power forward Lauren Scherf (196-1996, agency: LBM Management) scored 18 points, 5 rebounds, 7 assists and 4 blocks. Four Perth Lynx players scored in double figures. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Townsville Fire maintains third position with 5-2 record having just two points less than leader Bendigo. Perth Lynx lost third consecutive game. They keep the sixth place with five games lost. Townsville Fire will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Perth Lynx will play against Canberra Capitals (#8) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
