Regular Season Round 12: Cairns - Perth 83-105
Date: December 20, 2022
We cannot really consider it an upset in the game between close teams when one of their biggest challengers Cairns Taipans (10-7) were crushed at home by fifth ranked Perth Wildcats (9-7) 105-83 on Tuesday. Perth Wildcats looked well-organized offensively handing out 24 assists. Americans were the main players on the court. The best player for the winners was power forward TaShawn Thomas (203-1993, college: Oklahoma, agency: Pensack Sports) who had a double-double by scoring 22 points, 12 rebounds and 6 assists. Guard Bryce Cotton (182-1992, college: Providence, agency: Pensack Sports) chipped in 24 points. At the other side the best for losing team was forward DJ Hogg (203-1996, college: Texas A&M) who recorded 24 points and 8 rebounds and guard Tahjere McCall (193-1994, college: Tennessee St.) added 18 points, 10 rebounds and 4 assists respectively. Five Perth Wildcats and four Cairns Taipans players scored in double figures. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Perth Wildcats have a solid four-game winning streak. They maintain fifth position with 9-7 record. Loser Cairns Taipans keep the fourth place with seven games lost. Perth Wildcats will meet bottom-ranked Illawarra Hawks (#10) in the next round where they are favorite. Cairns Taipans will play against Illawarra Hawks (#10) in Gwynneville and hope to secure a win.
