Very important is a road loss of third ranked Melbourne Phoenix (11-8) against eighth ranked Adelaide 36ers (9-8) on Saturday night. Visiting Melbourne Phoenix was defeated by Adelaide 36ers in a tough game in Findon 88-94. Adelaide 36ers dominated down low during the game scoring 62 of its points in the paint compared to Melbourne Phoenix's 42. They outrebounded Melbourne Phoenix 45-30 including 31 on the defensive glass. The winners were led by American forward Robert Franks (201-1996, college: WSU) who scored that evening 20 points and 8 rebounds and the other American import guard Antonius Cleveland (196-1994, college: SEMO) supported him with 13 points, 11 rebounds, 5 assists and 5 steals. Adelaide 36ers' coach CJ Bruton allowed to play the deep bench players saving starting five for next games. Even 24 points and 5 rebounds by the former international swingman Mitch Creek (196-1992) did not help to save the game for Melbourne Phoenix. The former international guard Kyle Adnam (186-1993) added 18 points. Four Adelaide 36ers and five Melbourne Phoenix players scored in double figures. Adelaide 36ers moved-up to sixth place, which they share with Tasmania JJ. Melbourne Phoenix at the other side keeps the third position with eight games lost. Adelaide 36ers will play against higher ranked Cairns Taipans (#4) on the road in the next round and it may be quite challenging game. Melbourne Phoenix will play against JackJumpers in Hobart and hopes to get back on the winning track.
