Regular Season Round 9: Adelaide - Townsville 93-68

There was a minor upset when 4th placed Townsville Fire (6-4) was crushed on the road by seventh ranked Adelaide Lightning (4-8) 93-68 on Thursday. Adelaide Lightning looked well-organized offensively handing out 27 assists. American power forward Jacinta Monroe (196-1988, college: FSU, agency: Basket Promotion Agency) stepped up with a double-double by scoring 21 points, 10 rebounds and 4 assists for the winners and guard Isabel Borlase (180-2004) chipped in 23 points. Four Adelaide Lightning players scored in double figures. The best for the losing side was American forward Tianna Hawkins (191-1991, college: Maryland, agency: LBM Management) with a double-double by scoring 20 points and 13 rebounds and guard Stephanie Reid (168-1996, college: Buffalo) scored 13 points and 6 assists. Since the result was very predictable, it gave the chance for the coaches to test many bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Adelaide Lightning moved-up to sixth place. Loser Townsville Fire keeps the fourth position with four games lost. Adelaide Lightning will meet at home higher ranked Bendigo Spirit (#3) in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Townsville Fire will play against Sydney Flames and hope to secure a win.
