An exciting game between Top Four teams was played in Dandenong. Third ranked Southside Flyers faced their close opponent Bendigo Spirit. Host Southside Flyers (9-3) smashed guests from Bendigo (8-3) 118-72. Southside Flyers made 16-of-17 charity shots (94.1 percent) during the game. They also forced 29 Bendigo Spirit turnovers. Southside Flyers shot the lights out from three nailing 20 long-distance shots on high 66.7 percentage. Their players were unselfish on offense dishing 26 assists. It was a good game for American forward Kayla Thornton (185-1992, college: UTEP) who led her team to a victory with 23 points and 5 assists. The former international point guard Maddison Rocci (169-1998) contributed with 21 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists for the winners. Five Southside Flyers players scored in double figures. The former international swingman Anneli Maley (187-1998, college: TCU) answered with 17 points and 8 rebounds and the former international guard Abigail Wehrung (177-1995) added 14 points (went 7 for 7 at the free throw line) in the effort for Bendigo Spirit. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. The victory was the fifth consecutive win for Southside Flyers. They moved-up to second place. Bendigo Spirit at the other side keeps the third position with three games lost. Southside Flyers will play against Perth Lynx (#5) on the road in the next round. Bendigo Spirit will play against Adelaide Lightning and hopes to get back on the winning track.
