Regular Season Round 14: Sydney - Perth 108-87
Date: January 7, 2023
Not a big story in a game when 8th ranked Perth Wildcats (10-10) were outscored by first ranked Kings (15-5) in Sydney 108-87 on Saturday. Kings had a 37-24 advantage in offensive rebounds. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 24 assists. Forward Xavier Cooks (203-1995, college: Winthrop) notched a double-double by scoring 24 points, 11 rebounds and 4 assists (on 8-of-10 shooting from the field) to lead the effort and American guard Derrick Walton Jr (185-1995, college: Michigan) supported him with 16 points (was perfect 7-for-7 from the free throw line). Even 22 points by New Zealand guard Corey Webster (188-1988, college: Lambuth) did not help to save the game for Perth Wildcats. American guard Bryce Cotton (182-1992, college: Providence, agency: Pensack Sports) added 22 points and 5 assists for the guests. Five Kings and four Perth Wildcats players scored in double figures. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Kings have a solid four-game winning streak. Defending champion maintains first position with 15-5 record. Loser Perth Wildcats keep the eighth place with ten games lost. Kings will meet at home bottom-ranked Illawarra Hawks (#10) in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Perth Wildcats will play against Adelaide 36ers and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
