Regular Season Round 15: NZL Breakers - Cairns 83-85

The most exciting game of round 15 in the NBL took place in Auckland. This derby game ended with only two-point home defeat of 3rd placed New Zealand Breakers (13-9) to second ranked Cairns Taipans (16-7) 85-83 in the game for the second place. Cairns Taipans dominated down low during the game scoring 48 of its points in the paint compared to New Zealand Breakers' 24. It was a great evening for American forward DJ Hogg (203-1996, college: Texas A&M) who led his team to a victory scoring 18 points and 6 rebounds. Naturalized South Sudanese swingman Bul Kuol (201-1997, college: Detroit) helped adding 18 points and 5 rebounds. Four Cairns Taipans players scored in double figures. The best for the losing side was American forward Jamaal Brantley (200-1993, college: Cameron) with a double-double by scoring 25 points and 14 rebounds and the former international guard William McDowell-White (196-1998, college: Fresno St.) scored 29 points, 5 rebounds and 5 assists. Cairns Taipans have an impressive series of six victories in a row. They maintain second place with 16-7 record behind leader Sydney. New Zealand Breakers lost third consecutive game. They keep the third position with nine games lost. Cairns Taipans are looking forward to face JackJumpers (#4) in Hobart in the next round. New Zealand Breakers will play on the road against the league's leader Kings in Sydney and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
