There was a small surprise when ninth ranked Bullets (6-17) defeated on the road 7th ranked Melbourne Phoenix (12-12) 84-79 on Monday. Strangely Melbourne Phoenix outrebounded Bullets 47-27 including a 20-4 advantage in offensive rebounds. The best player for the winners was the former international guard Jason Cadee (186-1991) who scored 28 points. The former international guard Nathan Sobey (190-1990, college: Wyoming) chipped in 15 points. At the other side the best for losing team was the former international swingman Mitch Creek (196-1992) who recorded a double-double by scoring 17 points and 13 rebounds and American center Alan Williams (203-1993, college: UCSB) added 19 points and 9 rebounds respectively. Four Melbourne Phoenix players scored in double figures. Both coaches used bench players in such tough game. Bullets maintains ninth place with 6-17 record. Melbourne Phoenix lost their fourth game in a row. They keep the seventh position with 12 games lost. Bullets will meet bottom-ranked Illawarra Hawks (#10) in the next round. Melbourne Phoenix will play against Perth Wildcats and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
