Regular Season Round 17: NZL Breakers - Melbourne 80-74
Date: January 28, 2023
Rather predictable result when third ranked New Zealand Breakers (16-10) won against 7th ranked United (14-13) in Auckland 80-74 on Saturday. However just six-point win is not that big difference and the fans of host team counted on more convincing victory. American Jarrell Brantley (201-1996, college: Charleston) nailed 18 points and 5 rebounds for the winning side and New Zealand forward Robert Loe (211-1991, college: St.Louis) accounted for 15 points and 6 rebounds. Four New Zealand Breakers players scored in double figures. Canadian guard Xavier Rathan-Mayes (193-1994, college: FSU) came up with 15 points and 7 rebounds and American guard Rayjon Tucker (191-1997, college: UALR) added 14 points and 6 rebounds respectively for United in the defeat. Both coaches tested many bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. New Zealand Breakers have a solid series of three victories in a row. They maintain third place with 16-10 record having just three points less than leader Sydney. Loser United keeps the seventh position with 13 games lost. New Zealand Breakers will meet bottom-ranked Illawarra Hawks (#10) in the next round and are hoping to win another game. United will play against Adelaide 36ers and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
