Regular Season Round 12: Adelaide - Southside 72-73

Sixth-ranked Adelaide Lightning (4-13) made lots of trouble for second ranked Southside Flyers (12-4) on Saturday. The visitors from Dandenong managed to secure only one-point victory 73-72. However their fans expected much easier game. Southside Flyers shot 23 for 31 from the free-throw line, while Adelaide Lightning only scored five points from the stripe. They outrebounded Adelaide Lightning 35-24 including 25 on the defensive glass. The best player for the winners was American forward Kayla Thornton (185-1992, college: UTEP) who had a double-double by scoring 22 points and 11 rebounds. The former international forward Sara Blicavs (189-1993) chipped in 15 points and 5 rebounds. Four Southside Flyers players scored in double figures. At the other side the best for losing team was the former international swingman Stephanie Talbot (188-1994) who recorded a double-double by scoring 15 points and 11 assists and guard Isobel Borlase (180-2004) added 19 points and 4 assists respectively. Southside Flyers have a solid three-game winning streak. They keep a position of league leader. Adelaide Lightning lost fifth consecutive game. They dropped to the seventh place with 13 games lost. Southside Flyers are looking forward to face Sydney Flames (#6) at home in the next round where they are favorite. Adelaide Lightning will play against Canberra Capitals and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
