There was no surprise when 7th ranked Sydney Flames (4-12) were defeated at home by fourth ranked Townsville Fire (11-4) 82-78 on Sunday. Townsville Fire made 17-of-20 free shots (85.0 percent) during the game. Worth to mention a great performance of forward Mikaela Ruef (191-1990, college: Stanford) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 10 points and 11 rebounds and American forward Tianna Hawkins (191-1991, college: Maryland, agency: LBM Management) who added 15 points during the contest. Five Townsville Fire players scored in double figures. The best for the losing side was the former international forward Keely Froling (188-1996, college: SMU) with 24 points and 5 rebounds and American forward Jocelyn Willoughby (183-1998, college: Virginia, agency: LBM Management) scored 19 points and 5 rebounds (went 8 for 8 at the free throw line). Townsville Fire have an impressive six-game winning streak. They moved-up to second place, which they share with Melbourne. Sydney Flames lost fourth consecutive game. They dropped to the sixth position with 12 games lost. Townsville Fire will meet Perth Lynx (#5) on the road in the next round. Sydney Flames will play against the league's leader Southside Flyers in Dandenong and hope to secure a win.
