An exciting game between Top Four teams was played in Dandenong. Second ranked Southside Flyers faced 3rd placed Boomers. Host Southside Flyers (15-5) defeated guests from Melbourne (14-6) 81-67. Southside Flyers outrebounded Boomers 48-37 including 33 on the defensive glass. Their players were unselfish on offense dishing 24 assists. Southside Flyers brought some defensive toughness making 9 blocks. It was a good game for American forward Kayla Thornton (185-1992, college: UTEP) who led her team to a victory with 20 points and 9 rebounds. The former international forward Sara Blicavs (189-1993) contributed with a double-double by scoring 13 points and 10 rebounds for the winners. The former international center Cayla George (193-1989) answered with 15 points and the former international guard Kristy Wallace (180-1996, college: Baylor, agency: LBM Management) added 12 points and 5 rebounds in the effort for Boomers. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. The victory was the third consecutive win for Southside Flyers. They maintain second place with 15-5 record having just one point less than leader Townsville. Defending champion Boomers keep the third position with six games lost. Southside Flyers will play against league's leader Townsville Fire at home in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. Boomers will play against Sydney Flames and hope to get back on the winning track.
