Everything went according to plan when eighth ranked Canberra Gunners (5-3) edged bottom-ranked Spiders (0-7) in Hornsby 61-60 on Saturday. Guard James Toohey (188-1998, college: SVSU) notched 19 points, 5 rebounds and 5 assists to lead the effort and center Glenn Morison (208-1999, college: St.Edward's) supported him with 12 points and 8 rebounds. Canberra Gunners' coach Peter Herak used entire bench in such tough game. Even 19 points and 6 assists by Samoan-Lebanese guard Shareef Saipaia (-1999) did not help to save the game for Spiders. Center Peitok Machar (206-2003) added 13 points and 12 rebounds (on 6-of-7 shooting from the field) for lost side. Canberra Gunners have a solid four-game winning streak. They moved-up to sixth place, which they share with Sutherland S. Loser Spiders still closes the standings with seven games lost. They share the position with Bankstown B.. Canberra Gunners will meet Panthers (#13) in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Spiders will have a break next round.
