There was a surprise result in Cranbourne where eighteenth ranked Cavaliers (1-7) outleveled higher ranked Tornadoes (3-5) 84-60 on Saturday. Cavaliers dominated down low during the game scoring 44 of its points in the paint compared to Tornadoes' 24. They outrebounded Tornadoes 51-19 including a 21-4 advantage in offensive rebounds. Cavaliers looked well-organized offensively handing out 28 assists comparing to just 9 passes made by Tornadoes' players. The best player for the winners was forward Esra McGoldrick (188-1999, college: NC State) who had a double-double by scoring 25 points and 14 rebounds (on 9-of-11 shooting from the field). American guard Lauren Van Kleunen (188, college: Marquette) chipped in 19 points and 6 rebounds (on 8-of-10 shooting from the field). Cavaliers' coach felt very confident using 10 players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Forward Macey Crawford (178-2005) produced 17 points and 5 rebounds and guard Olivia West (168, college: UC Riverside) added 15 points respectively for the guests. Cavaliers left bottom position moving up to seventh place, which they share with Hume City B. Loser Tornadoes dropped to the fifth position with five games lost. They share it with 6 other teams. Cavaliers will meet at home higher ranked Frankston Blues (#6) in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Tornadoes will play against Geelong Supercats and hope to secure a win.
