There was a surprise result in Cheltenham where sixteenth ranked Thunder (3-5) edged higher ranked Sabres (5-5) 97-94 on Saturday. Worth to mention a great performance of Japanese center Kadysha Umezawa (190-1998) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 23 points and 13 rebounds and guard Lana Hollingsworth (178, college: Santa Clara) who added 19 points and 6 rebounds during the contest. Thunder's coach used a ten-player rotation in such tough game. The best for the losing side was naturalized Turkish guard Funda Nakkasoglu (173-1995, college: Florida) with 33 points (!!!) and 4 steals and forward Georgia Pineau (185-1997, college: Boston Coll.) produced a double-double by scoring 23 points and 11 rebounds. Five Thunder and four Sabres players scored in double figures. Thunder moved-up to eighth place, which they share with Kalamunda ES and Ipswich F. Loser Sabres dropped to the sixth position with five games lost. They share it with Forestville E. and N.Adelaide R.. Thunder will meet at home higher ranked Hawks (#5) in the next round and it may be quite challenging game. Sabres will play against Tornadoes and hope to secure a win.
