Everything went according to plan when eighth ranked Brisbane Spartans (5-5) defeated on the road 15th ranked Brisbane Capitals (1-7) 96-90 on Sunday. Brisbane Spartans made 20-of-26 free shots (76.9 percent) during the game. Guard Koen Sapwell (193-1999, college: CS Monterey) nailed 40 points (!!!) and 7 assists for the winning side and the former international forward Akoldah Gak (208-2002) accounted for 15 points and 8 rebounds. Forward Malok Majak (196-2000, agency: ProMondo Sports) came up with a double-double by scoring 17 points and 14 rebounds and power forward Geordan Papacostas (199-2004) added 18 points (on 8-of-9 shooting from the field) respectively for Brisbane Capitals in the defeat. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Both coaches used bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. The victory was the fourth consecutive win for Brisbane Spartans. They moved-up to seventh place, which they share with Ballarat M. and Illawarra H. 2. Loser Brisbane Capitals keep the fifteenth position with seven games lost. Brisbane Spartans will meet Rip City (#12) in the next round which should be theoretically an easy game. Brisbane Capitals will play against the league's second-placed Thunder and will have a slim chance for a victory.
