There was a surprise result in Eltham where eleventh ranked Wildcats (5-5) smashed higher ranked Hawks (7-4) 87-66 on Saturday. They outrebounded Hawks 46-33 including a 37-22 advantage in defensive rebounds. Wildcats looked well-organized offensively handing out 25 assists. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when Wildcats made 7 blocks. Center Rebecca Pizzey (190-1999) stepped up with a double-double by scoring 15 points, 16 rebounds and 5 assists for the winners and guard Lily Scanlon (175-2001, college: Gonzaga) chipped in 24 points and 6 rebounds. Four Wildcats players scored in double figures. At the losing side guard Marena Whittle (180-1994, college: NDSU, agency: LBM Management) responded with 16 points, 7 rebounds, 4 assists and 4 steals and guard Zoe Jenkins (178, college: LMU) scored 17 points. Hawks' coach gave up on the game allowing to play eleven players seeing no chance for a win. The victory was the third consecutive win for Wildcats. They moved-up to sixth place, which they share with 3 other teams. Loser Hawks dropped to the third position with four games lost. They share it with Frankston B. and Sherbrooke S.. Wildcats will meet Tornadoes (#14) in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Hawks will play against the league's leader Lady Braves (#1) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
