There was no surprise in Runcorn where 9th ranked Flames (5-7) were crushed by third ranked Pirates (8-2) 71-50 on Sunday. Pirates dominated down low during the game scoring 54 of its points in the paint compared to Flames' 26. American Leah Scott (183-1993, college: Marshall) stepped up with a double-double by scoring 21 points and 15 rebounds for the winners and the former international point guard Maddison Rocci (169-1998) chipped in 20 points, 7 rebounds and 8 assists (made all of her seven free throws). At the losing side forward Alexandra Fowler (188-2001, college: Portland) responded with a double-double by scoring 12 points and 10 rebounds and guard Kate Gaze (173-1990, college: St.Mary's, CA) scored 11 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists. Flames' coach gave up on the game allowing to play ten players seeing no chance for a win. The victory was the third consecutive win for Pirates. They maintain third place with 8-2 record having just two points less than leader Wyndham D. Loser Flames keep the ninth position with seven games lost. They share it with Sandringham S.. Pirates will meet at home Brisbane Spartans (#6) in the next round. Flames will have a break next round.
