Very predictable result in Melbourne where sixth ranked Hawks (7-4) beat 14th ranked Thunder (3-7) 79-65 on Sunday. Guard Marena Whittle (180-1994, college: NDSU, agency: LBM Management) stepped up with a double-double by scoring 33 points (!!!), 12 rebounds and 4 assists for the winners and Ariel Jones chipped in 16 points. Hawks' coach allowed to play the deep bench players saving starting five for next games. At the losing side Japanese center Kadysha Umezawa (190-1998) responded with a double-double by scoring 15 points and 18 rebounds and Icelandic forward Eva Kristjansdottir (186-1997) scored 16 points and 8 rebounds. Hawks moved-up to third place, which they share with Frankston B. and Sherbrooke S. Loser Thunder dropped to the sixteenth position with seven games lost. Hawks will meet at home league's leader Lady Braves in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. Thunder will play against the league's second-placed Falcons (#2) in Mount Waverley and hope to secure a win.
