There was a surprise result when seventeenth ranked Ringwood Hawks (4-7) defeated higher ranked Thunder (4-6) in Melbourne 94-88 on Sunday. Ringwood Hawks dominated down low during the game scoring 62 of its points in the paint compared to Thunder's 42. It was an exceptional evening for American guard Jonathan Lawton (188-1996, college: FSC, agency: IceBasket) who led the winners and scored 22 points, 7 rebounds, 6 assists and 5 steals. His fellow American import forward Kyle Daggett (198-1999, college: Shepherd) accounted for 22 points and 5 rebounds for the winning side. Lawton attended previously one of camps at Eurobasket Summer League on his way to pro basketball. Ringwood Hawks' coach Damien Smith used an eleven-player rotation which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Guard Robbie Heath (190-1998, college: Pepperdine) came up with 20 points and 9 rebounds and power forward Oliver Hayes-Brown (208-2000, college: UC Riverside) added 24 points and 6 rebounds respectively for Thunder in the defeat. Four Thunder players scored in double figures. Ringwood Hawks moved-up to fourteenth place, which they share with Melbourne T. and NW Tasmania. Thunder lost their third game in a row. They dropped to the tenth position with six games lost. They share it with Goldfields G.. Ringwood Hawks will meet at home Bendigo Braves (#17) in the next round. Thunder will play against Waverley Falcons (#10) in Mount Waverley and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
