Regular Season Round 19: Sandringham S. - NW Tasmania 100-68

Very expected game when 15th ranked NW Tasmania Thunder (4-7) was smashed by fourth ranked Sabres (8-4) in Cheltenham 100-68 on Sunday. Sabres made 16-of-17 free shots (94.1 percent) during the game. Sabres outrebounded NW Tasmania Thunder 48-30 including a 37-21 advantage in defensive rebounds. It was an exceptional evening for guard Ben Ayre (188-1995, college: Newman, agency: ProMondo Sports) who led the winners and scored 27 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists (made all of his eleven free throws !!!). The former international forward Dane Pineau (206-1994, college: St.Mary's, CA) accounted for 12 points and 18 rebounds for the winning side. Five Sabres players scored in double figures. Sabres' coach Rhys Carter felt very confident that he used 11 players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. American swingman Sekou Sylla (196, college: Towson) came up with 24 points and forward Venkatesha Jois (203-1993, college: EWU) added 20 points and 7 rebounds respectively for NW Tasmania Thunder in the defeat. The victory was the third consecutive win for Sabres. They moved-up to third place, which they share with Joondalup W. and Knox R. Loser NW Tasmania Thunder dropped to the fourteenth position with seven games lost. They share it with Melbourne T. and Ringwood H.. Sabres will meet Diamond Valley Eagles (#5) in the next round. NW Tasmania Thunder will play against the league's leader Eltham Wildcats (#1) and hope to secure a win.
