Regular Season Round 14: Illawarra H. - Inner WB 87-68

There was a small surprise when fifteenth ranked Hawks (3-10) crushed 12th ranked Bulls (3-10) in Wollongong 87-68 on Saturday. Hawks forced 23 Bulls turnovers. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 23 assists. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when Hawks made 7 blocks. Guard Ella Dent (170-2002) notched 27 points, 5 rebounds, 6 assists and 4 steals to lead the effort and Argentinian center Emilia Garcia Leon (182-1994) supported her with 14 points, 7 rebounds and 5 blocks. Even a double-double of 21 points and 16 rebounds (was perfect 8-for-8 from the free throw line) by swingman Mikaela Dombkins (181-1986) did not help to save the game for Bulls. The former international point guard Leilani Mitchell (165-1985, college: Utah) added 15 points and 9 assists for the guests. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Hawks moved-up to twelfth place, which they share with Penrith P. and Inner WB. Bulls lost fourth consecutive game. Hawks will meet at home higher ranked Falcons (#3) in the next round and they do not belong to the favorites in that game. Bulls will play against Comets (#5) in Alexandria and hope to secure a win.
