There was no surprise when 16th ranked Thunder (3-9) lost to fifth ranked Frankston Blues (8-4) in Seaford 61-79 on Saturday. Frankston Blues outrebounded Thunder 43-30 including 32 on the defensive glass. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when Frankston Blues made 7 blocks. Forward Louise Brown (189-1995, college: Tennessee) notched a double-double by scoring 18 points and 18 rebounds to lead the effort and forward Chloe Bibby (185-1998, college: Maryland) supported her with 26 points and 5 rebounds. Five Frankston Blues players scored in double figures. Even a double-double of 15 points and 11 rebounds by Japanese center Kadysha Umezawa (190-1998) did not help to save the game for Thunder. Japanese guard Ai Yamada (170-1995) added 18 points and 6 assists for the guests. Frankston Blues moved-up to third place, which they share with Perry Lakes H. and Sherbrooke S. Thunder lost third consecutive game. They dropped to the seventh position with nine games lost. They share it with Kilsyth LC and Camberwell. Frankston Blues will meet Tornadoes (#14) in the next round which should be an easy win for them. Thunder will play against Geelong Supercats (#5) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
