The game between closely ranked teams ended with 8th ranked Jets' (2-10) road loss to seventh ranked Hume City Broncos (3-8) in Tullamarine 79-86 on Sunday. Hume City Broncos made 26-of-32 free shots (81.3 percent) during the game, while Jets only scored nine points from the stripe. They outrebounded Jets 50-38 including 36 on the defensive glass. American forward Kayonna Lee (185, college: Central Mo.) notched a double-double by scoring 22 points and 19 rebounds to lead the effort and Tegan Hindle supported her with 16 points and 5 rebounds. Worth to mention Lee played also at Eurobasket Summer League, which helped get the job in pro basketball. Hume City Broncos' coach Tim Devlin used an eleven-player rotation which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Even a double-double of 22 points and 18 rebounds by Greek center Dimitra Gkizani (190-2000, college: RWC) did not help to save the game for Jets. Swedish guard Ida Andersson (173-1996, college: Barry) added 13 points, 5 rebounds and 8 assists for the guests. Four Jets players scored in double figures. Hume City Broncos moved-up to sixth place, which they share with Goldfields G. Loser Jets keep the eighth position with ten games lost. They share it with Ballarat R. and Casey C.. Hume City Broncos will meet at home higher ranked Warriors (#5) in the next round and it may be quite challenging game. Jets will play against the league's leader Devils and hope to secure a win.
