There was a small surprise in Morley where ninth ranked Lightning (5-8) won against 7th ranked Eagles (5-9) 83-77 on Friday. Lightning made 19-of-24 free shots (79.2 percent) during the game. They also forced 20 Eagles turnovers. The best player for the winners was American forward Laci Hawthorne (183-1999, college: Utah St.) who had a double-double by scoring 22 points and 13 rebounds. Her fellow American import guard Kylee Smith (180-1994, college: Belmont) chipped in a double-double by scoring 16 points, 10 rebounds and 4 assists. Worth to mention Smith played also at Eurobasket Summer League, which helped get the job in pro basketball. At the other side the best for losing team was Polish point guard Sylwia Bujniak (170-1996) who recorded 28 points, 6 rebounds and 6 assists and Sarah Allen added 23 points respectively. Four Eagles players scored in double figures. Lightning moved-up to fifth place, which they share with Pakenham W. Loser Eagles dropped to the ninth position with nine games lost. They share it with Launceston T. and Hobart C.. Lightning will meet at home higher ranked Tigers (#3) in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Eagles will play against Senators (#7) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
