No shocking result in a game in Mackay where fourth ranked Thunder (9-4) won against 14th ranked Meteorettes (2-10) 69-61 on Saturday. Thunder forced 20 Meteorettes turnovers and outrebounded them 45-34 including 34 on the defensive glass. The best player for the winners was forward Mikaela Ruef (191-1990, college: Stanford) who had a double-double by scoring 24 points and 24 rebounds. Mikhaela Cann chipped in 15 points and 7 assists. Four Thunder players scored in double figures. At the other side the best for losing team was American guard Davida Dale (180-1997, college: URI) who recorded a double-double by scoring 19 points, 6 rebounds, 10 assists and 5 steals and the other American import center Brittany Reeves (196, college: Mercer) added 16 points and 9 rebounds respectively. Meteorettes' coach rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. The victory was the fifth consecutive win for Thunder. They moved-up to third place, which they share with Geelong LS and Sherbrooke S. Meteorettes lost their sixth game in a row. They keep the fourteenth position with ten games lost. Thunder will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Meteorettes will play against Force (#12) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
