Regular Season Round 22: USC Rip - Gold Coast R. 97-120
Date: June 3, 2023
Not a big story in a game when 12th ranked Rip City (5-6) was outscored by second ranked Rollers (12-2) in Sippy Downs 120-97 on Saturday. Rollers made 20-of-24 free shots (83.3 percent) during the game. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 28 assists. The former international swingman Todd Blanchfield (198-1991) notched a double-double by scoring 41 points (!!!), 15 rebounds and 5 assists (made all of his seven free throws) to lead the effort and the former international guard Jason Cadee (186-1991) supported him with 24 points, 5 rebounds and 14 assists. Rollers' coach Anthony Petrie felt very confident that he used 10 players and allowed the starting five to rest. Even a double-double of 45 points (!!!), 13 rebounds and 4 assists by naturalized Sudanese forward Kouat Noi (201-1997, college: TCU) did not help to save the game for Rip City. The former international guard Matthew Kenyon (196-1998) added 22 points, 12 rebounds, 10 assists and 4 steals for lost side. Rollers have an impressive 11-game winning streak. They maintain second position with 12-2 record having just 2 victories less than leader Frankston B., which they share with Inner WB. Loser Rip City dropped to the eleventh place with six games lost. Rollers will meet at home Salties (#5) in the next round. Rip City will play against Brisbane Spartans (#12) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
