Regular Season Round 22: Melbourne Uni - Western PS 116-74
Date: June 3, 2023
Everything went according to plan when second ranked Melbourne Uni (9-5) outplayed at home 10th ranked Steelers (1-12) 116-74 on Saturday. Melbourne Uni outrebounded Steelers 71-33 including a 27-5 advantage in offensive rebounds. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 32 assists comparing to just 12 passes made by Steelers' players. American Isaac Turner (190-1992, college: St.Vincent) notched 30 points, 8 rebounds and 5 assists to lead the effort and guard Shayan Mahboobi supported him with 15 points, 9 rebounds and 8 assists. Four Melbourne Uni players scored in double figures. Even 20 points and 7 assists by naturalized British guard Daryl Corletto (193-1981) did not help to save the game for Steelers. American guard Scott Stone (193-1995, college: St.Cloud St.) added 11 points for lost side. Since the result was very predictable, it gave the chance for the coaches to test many bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Melbourne Uni have a solid four-game winning streak. Despite that victory Melbourne Uni went down to fourth position due to points difference, which they share with Nunawading S. and Keysborough C. Steelers lost fifth consecutive game. They keep the tenth place with 12 games lost. Both teams do not play next round, which will be an opportunity for some rest.
