Important game to mention about took place in Alexandria. Seventh ranked Mustangs (9-6) saved a 1-point victory on the road edging 5th ranked Comets (11-3) 76-75 on Saturday evening. It ended at the same time the five-game winning streak of Comets. Mustangs dominated down low during the game scoring 48 of its points in the paint compared to Comets' 28. They outrebounded Comets 46-31 including 33 on the defensive glass. American guard Sydney Hunter (183-1999, college: San Diego) stepped up with a double-double by scoring 16 points and 14 rebounds for the winners and forward Mila Wawszkowicz (181-2004) chipped in 17 points and 7 rebounds. Four Mustangs players scored in double figures. Mustangs' coach allowed to play the deep bench players in such tough game. The former international point guard Shyla Heal (167-2001, agency: LBM Management) responded with 36 points (!!!), 5 rebounds and 7 assists (was perfect 8-for-8 from the free throw line) and New Zealand guard Dru Toleafoa (183-1997, college: Santa Clara) scored 6 points and 11 rebounds. Mustangs maintains seventh place with 9-6 record, which they share with Cairns D. Comets at the other side keep the fifth position with three games lost. Mustangs will play against Crusaders (#11) in Terrigal in the next round. Comets will play at home against BA CoE (#4) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
