There was a minor upset when 4th placed North Bears (12-3) lost to sixth ranked Sharks (10-5) in Sutherland 86-93 on Saturday. Sharks made 29-of-36 free shots (80.6 percent) during the game, while North Bears only scored eleven points from the stripe. The former international guard Lauren Nicholson (183-1993, college: St.Mary's, CA) nailed 35 points (!!!), 9 rebounds, 7 assists and 4 steals for the winning side and guard Aliza Fabbro (172-2001) accounted for 15 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists. Four Sharks players scored in double figures. American guard Jolene Anderson (173-1986, college: Wisconsin) came up with a double-double by scoring 32 points, 10 rebounds and 5 assists and swingman Emily Simons (178-1994, college: Pacific) added 18 points respectively for North Bears in the defeat. Sharks have an impressive series of five victories in a row. They moved-up to fourth place, which they share with Perry Lakes H. and Mandurah M. Loser North Bears dropped to the second position with three games lost. They share it with Waverley F. and Willetton T.. Sharks will meet Hawks (#13) in the next round and are hoping to win another game. North Bears will play against Nationals (#9) in Canberra and hope to secure a win.
